Default tools
World Lab uses some default tools to make sure everybody is on the same page.
Project management (1) Kanban
Jotform boards is a free Kanban tool for teams of any size. We recommend it because of its simplicity and because it's 100% free.
- (1) Visit Jotform.com and sign up
- (2) Confirm email
- (3) Click on this link and choose the option given
- (4) Click use template
- (5) Remove unneeded tasks
- (6) Invite your team to the board:
- (7) We recommend bookmarking the page as Jotform makes boards hard to find.
- (8) Watch this video to understand how to use a Kanban board:
Project management (2) fully featured Kanban
Taiga is a fully featured open source version of Jira complete with a wiki, epics, list limits and full scum support for Kanban-familiar teams ready to benefit from complexity at the cost of ease-of-use.
See how Mozilla uses Taiga here >>
Visualization & organization
Miro is the most robust platform for visualizing things like org charts, design documents etc.
Downsides
Very poor security for free users
Three boards free per person
Upsides
Real-time editing by a whole team
Open source alternative Excalidraw is free, requires no account, lacks the 3 board limit and is easier to share.
Art
Blender, Photopea (Photoshop alternative) and Canva (presentations) are solid free tools our community embrace as a non profit as well.
Timezone tools
Hammertime.cyou is a tool that allows you to turn a time in your own timezone into one others can see in their timezones.
To use it:
- (1) visit the website
- (2) Click the hamburger menu and click "separate inputs"
- (3) Choose a time and date.
- (4) Copy the code and paste it into any Discord channel.
No timezone negotiation necessary.
Banned tools
World Lab bans the use of these tools for all users:
- Google Docs (permission issues)
- Trello (user maximum)
- Other Discords—keep all interaction in World Lab while you are in your Initial Contribution Phase.
Tools that utilize inflexible permission structures or leave users powerless during personal changes do not meet World Lab standards.
Polis-specific tools
Other than these project management tools, Poleis generally define what tools those who work on their projects use.
